In Ghana, the next World Cup (November 20 - December 18) is to be taken seriously. The government and the Football Federation have initiated days of prayers to implore God to make the Black Stars shine in Qatar.
With less than a month to go before the World Cup (November 20-December 18), the various qualified teams are getting motivated as best they can. If everything will happen on the field, others want to rely on the spiritual aspect beyond the talent in the group.
In Ghana, the government and the country's federation (GFA) have initiated two national days of prayer and fasting. Muslims made their "sacrifice" on Friday, October 21. As for the Christians, they will do the same on Sunday 23. It remains to be seen if this can help the Black Stars team reach the World Cup final.
"Ghana is a Christian country and our government has set aside a day to pray and fast for the national team," Aston Villa and Ghana fan Owusu Boakye Amando told BBC Sport Africa. Muslims are starting and Christians will also pray for the national team. This is important so we can wish them well when they go to Qatar."
Before heading down to the World Cup, Ghana will play a final friendly against Switzerland in Abu Dhabi on November 17. A week later comes their first group match, against Portugal. The four-time African champions also share Pool H with South Korea and Uruguay. The stars will also have it at the back of their mind the dreadful events at the 2010 World Cup against Uruguay wherein they had the chance to become the first African Nation to sail to the semis but Asamoah Gyan's penalty miss made the difference in that quarter final game.
