World Cup 2022: What Samuel Eto'o risks after physical assault on youtuber

Samuel Eto'o hit an Algerian fan after the match between Brazil and South Korea on December 5. After this incident, the victim filed a complaint against the president of the Cameroon Football Federation in a Qatari police station. So what are the risks for the Cameroonian legend?

The video quickly went around the world. Samuel Eto'o was present at the round of 16 match between Brazil and South Korea (4-1) on December 5, and had a run-in with an Algerian youtuber at the end of the match. The two men exchanged a few words before the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) went out of his mind and kicked his opponent in the face while on camera.

According to the revelations of several media, the Algerian youtuber who answers to the name of Said Mamouni would have asked Samuel Eto'o questions concerning Bakary Gassama, the referee of the second leg of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers between Algeria and Cameroon. A match lost by the Fennecs in the extra time, synonymous with not qualifying for the World Cup in Qatar. After this elimination, the Gambian official found himself in the crosshairs of Djamel Belmadi, coach of the Greens, as well as many Algerian fans who accused him of having fixed the match.

A fine of 130 euros
It is for this reason that Said Mamouni asked Samuel Eto'o about the referee. A questioning to which the Cameroonian legend apparently did not like to the point of hitting the Algerian. After this incident, Said Mamouni has, on his YouTube channel, published a message explaining that he was in a Qatari police station to file a complaint against Samuel Eto'o.

What does the president of Fecafoot risk for this violent kick? Can he be convicted under Qatari law? According to Article 308 of the Penal Code of the host country of the 2022 World Cup, anyone who commits an assault resulting in disability or incapacity to work for more than 20 days is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of 10,000 Qatari riyals (about 2615 euros). Since Eto'o's victim has no injury, Samuel Eto'o should be fined 500 Qatari riyals (about 130 euros), suggests Goal.com.
