Ivorian sprinter Koné Maboundo looks set for the African Athletics Championships

The 22nd African Senior Championships will be held from 8 to 12 June in Mauritius. Kone Maboundo, Ivorian sprinter, hopes to achieve great performances.

The African Athletics Championships start this Wednesday 8 June in Mauritius. Koné Maboundo will be among the representatives of Côte d'Ivoire. The 25-year-old sprinter is not short of ambition. "In the 100m I am aiming for the final. And in the 200m, I will fight for a medal. Because I am in great shape for the distance", speaking to sportivoire. "I feel very good. In the 100m, I know that my time is not yet top. The clock is ticking but not in the way I want it to. In the 200m, on the other hand, I will have a chance to play. At the last interclub, I did 23.27. I will therefore focus on the 200m rather than the 100m," adds Maboundo.

"My dream is to bring happiness to the Ivorian people".
Kone Maboundou, whose best time in the 100m this season is 11s60, will however not put pressure on herself that could inhibit her performance. The most important thing for her is to brilliantly defend the colors of Côte d'Ivoire.

"It is a great pride for me to defend the national colors by taking part in my first African Championships. This after my big sisters like Ta Lou, Murielle Ahouré and with Ziketh Karel that I consider all as legends. Moreover, I will use their advice and experience at these championships," she said. "It's a competition that will give me a lot of experience. But my dream is to bring maximum happiness to the Ivorian people.''

Maboundou was gold medallist at the Confederation of African Athletics International Grand Prix in the 200 last March in Douala, Cameroon. This was her big return to continental competitions. At the African Championships, she will face the formidable Nigerian Aminatou Seyni who clocked 22s21 in the 200m in Ostrava along side  Gambia's Gina Bass currently at 22s58.

Maboundo will compete in the 100m on 8 June. She will then start in the 200m on 11 June.
