Kenya’s Cyprian Kimurgor Kotut has said he is happy to win the 2022 Hamburg Marathon and set a new course record.
Kotut was in good form when he clocked 2:04:47 to win the Hamburg Marathon held in Germany on Sunday, April 24th.
“It was a very good performance and I am proud that I won the race and set a new record,” said Kotut. Uganda’s Stephen Kissa finished in second place in a time of 2:04:48.
All the top four runners were under the previous men’s course record of 2:05:30, set by another top Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge in 2013.
Kutut said that the race was very tight and tricky with the front runners all coming all out. “This win has motivated me to keep working hard so that I can continue performing well in different competitions throughout the season,” added Kutut.
In the race Ethiopia’s Workineh Tadesse finished third with a time of 2:05:07, and another Ugandan Victor Kiplangat came in fourth place.
Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw, 22 won the women’s Hamburg Marathon with the fastest women’s Marathon time of 2:17:23.
She led an Ethiopian top three, with Fikrte Wereta and Bone Cheluke clocking respective times of 2:26:15 and 2:26:23, also on their marathon debuts.
