Côte d'Ivoire, Tunisia and Cape Verde have qualified for Afrobasket 2025. These three teams made a clean sweep of the first qualifying round, which included groups B, D and E.Egypt and Angola will have to wait for the third window to validate their ticket.
Côte d'Ivoire has lived up to its billing. Second in the FIBA rankings in Africa and reigning African vice-champion, the Elephants dominated Group D of the Afrobasket 2025 qualifiers. In fact, they've put together an outstanding performance and are now alone at the top of the group. The Ivorians opened with a fine victory over Madagascar (77-69). They went on to beat the Central African Republic (93-67) and finished with a 79-76 victory over Egypt, the host of these qualifiers. Thanks to this success, Côte d'Ivoire has qualified for Afrobasket 2025.

Tunisia have also validated their ticket for Afrobasket 2025. Like the Ivorians, the Aigles de Carthage won three of their three matches. The two-time reigning African champions first dismantled Kenya (90-69), then Guinea (85-78) and then Angola (82-73). Tunisia thus bounced back from their disappointing 2023 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Cape Verde is the third country to qualify for Afrobasket 2025. The Blue Sharks top Group B thanks to victories over Uganda (78-73), Libya (72-68) and Nigeria (78-62). A good tournament for the Cape Verdians, who will be playing in their second consecutive Afrobasket, the seventh in their history.
Beaten in Group D by Côte d'Ivoire, Egypt are second behind the Elephants. The Pharaohs will have to wait until the next round to qualify for Afrobasket 2025. The same goes for Angola, second in Group E behind Tunisia. In Group B, Nigeria, with zero wins, are all but eliminated. Libya, who came out of the preliminaries, are second with 5 points and are still in with a chance of reaching Afrobasket 2025.
Groups A and C will be in action in the second window, scheduled from November 18 to 26.
