Reims-Yunis Abdelhamid: "We'll leave each other in the best possible way"

Yunis Abdelhamid has been with Reims since 2017, when the team was still in Ligue 2. But this 2023-2024 season will be his last with the Rouge et Blanc. The club has decided not to extend his contract, which expires in June 2024.The Moroccan international (14 caps) finds this incomprehensible.

"My future with Reims will come to an end at the end of the season... The club told me I wouldn't be extended. We've spent seven wonderful seasons together. We're going our separate ways," the 36-year-old confirmed to L'Equipe.

Yunis Abdelhamid continues:"Disappointment?I wouldn't say that.Well... a little, because I wasn't expecting it, especially after last season, when my performances enabled me to become an international again with Morocco. There's always a little sadness, that's soccer, you have to accept it. I spent seven years at Reims, where I was fairly regular with good results. When I found out after the Lorient game (February 11) that my contract wouldn't be extended, it was a bit of a blow to the back of my head. Then I took the time to digest it. And as we said, the most important thing is to finish the season well together. And we'll say goodbye in the best possible way. Since 2017, the defender has played 242 matches for Reims.
