Cameroon has missed out on its entry to the AFCON 2023. The Indomitable Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by Guinea, despite playing a numerically superior game in the second half. André Onana watched from the stands. The Manchester United goalkeeper only arrived on Monday, January 15, and was therefore not on the team sheet.
Speaking to New World TV, he reacted."At the moment it's difficult because when you wear the Cameroon jersey, your intention is to win. Cameroon can't afford to lose or draw. So we're disappointed. But, as I'm wont to say, that's soccer, you stay positive.Everything is temporary. I think we gave it our all, the lads gave it their all. The lads just lacked success. We had a few chances that we couldn't convert (...). The most important thing is the next game.
In their next match, on Friday January 19, Cameroon face defending champions Senegal, who beat Gambia 3-0. And when asked if he would be in goal, André Onana replied: "I'm not a coach". It will therefore be up to Rigobert Song to choose between the Manchester United man and Fabrice Ondoa, who started against Guinea.
