The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has just published the prize money for the AFCON 2023. According to the body, there has been a 40% increase compared with the previous edition. The winner of the final, scheduled for February 11, will pocket 7,000,000 USD (6.3 million euros).
The runner-up will take a consolation prize of 4,000,000 USD (3.6 million euros), while the third and fourth runners-up will each hang 2,500,000 USD (2.2 million euros) from the cake. Finally, USD 1,300,000 (€1.1 million) will be awarded to each team eliminated in the quarter-finals.
"CAF has made significant progress over the past two years by increasing the prize money for the AFCON and all its other major competitions. I am convinced that part of the prize money will contribute to the development of soccer and will also benefit all soccer stakeholders, while helping our member associations with their administrative tasks," said African soccer president Patrice Motsepe.
