The clash between Côte d'Ivoire and Nigeria lived up to all its promise. The Elephants lost to the Super Eagles (0-1).In a fast-paced, high-intensity match, the Nigerians won a penalty thanks to Victor Osimhen (55th). The penalty was converted by captain William Troost-Ekong.
The Ivorians pushed hard to get back into the match, but without success. This was their first defeat in the AFCON 2023. They will have to play for qualification in the 3rd match against Equatorial Guinea, joint leaders with Nigeria (4 points). The Super Eagles, meanwhile, will play Guinea-Bissau, last in the group with zero points.
