Tuesday, the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football handed down its verdict at first instance on the appeal lodged by the DRC against Mauritania.
The Congolese had complained about the use of three players by the Mourabitounes in their two 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, including Khadim Diaw. In its verdict, CAF ruled that Horoya's left-back was ineligible on the grounds that he had already played matches for Senegal's local team (during the CHAN qualifiers) and had therefore not complied with the process for changing sporting nationality.
As a result, Mauritania lost the double-header against the DRC by a single goal.In a press release, the Mauritanian Football Federation said it would appeal against this decision to the relevant commission. The case is far from over.
