The recovery operation is underway for the DRC. For the third day of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, in Group I, the Congolese beat Mauritania on Friday, March 24. Final score 3 goals to 1. The Congolese victory was however facilitated by the exclusion of Idrissa Thiam on the Mauritanian side, from the 22nd minute.

Soon after, Gaël Kakuta opened the score in the 37th minute, Cédric Bakambu doubled the score five minutes later. Despite Mauritania's score reduction, signed by Aly Abeid (55th), the DRC scored a third goal thanks to Arthur Masuaku (67th). With this success, the Leopards are back on track and now have 3 points, just like Sudan. This group is dominated by Gabon (7 points) and Mauritania (4 points). Note that Mauritania and Congo will meet on Tuesday, March 28 for the return leg.
