Benin finally won the match. While the Cheetahs had conceded a draw against Rwanda (1-1) during the 4th day of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers, the Beninese technical staff had filed an appeal with CAF. In their WORRIES, the Rwandan striker Muhire Kevin who should not have taken part in this match because of an accumulation of yellow cards. The latter had been warned during the games against Senegal and Benin (first leg) and was automatically suspended for a game. Suspension that he should have served during the return leg against Benin.
Given the elements at its disposal, the disciplinary panel of CAF decided to give victory to Benin and therefore to declare Rwanda the loser of this match on the green carpet (3-0), in accordance with Article 105 of the Disciplinary Code of the body. However, Rwanda can appeal to the CAF Appeal Jury. In the meantime, with this decision, Benin moves back to the 2nd place of the group L with 4 points, equal with Mozambique but behind Senegal which has 12 points. On its part, Rwanda now has 2 points.
