Nigeria's anti-doping agency is in turmoil. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed a request for arbitration with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for alleged non-compliance by the national anti-doping organizations of Nigeria and Venezuela. These two agencies were sanctioned last autumn for non-compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code introduced by WADA.
WADA considers that the Nigerian organization "continues to fail to meet several essential requirements of its anti-doping program", according to a press release published on Tuesday February 13. With these sanctions, Nigeria loses its right to membership of the organization and can no longer host major sporting events. Its flag cannot be displayed at major competitions, including the Olympic Games, until it meets the conditions set by WADA, which submitted its application to CAS on February 9.
