The second edition of the Five Nations Championships held on April 14 and 15, 2023 in Tamale, Ghana saw a raid by Burkina Faso's U18 and U20 athletes. The 24 girls and boys athletes finished at the top of the final ranking by winning 25 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 12 bronze medals for a total of 59 medals ahead of the host country, Ghana, 41 medals including 21 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze.
Benin is ranked 3rd with 05 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 19 bronze medals or 39 medals. At the 4th place we find the Ivory Coast with 20 medals in total including 04 gold, 06 silver and 10 bronze. Togo closes the march with 02 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals or 06 medals.
The five nations championships are dedicated to cadets and juniors and this performance of Burkina Faso 1st this year after having occupied the 2nd place last year translates a nice progression of the Burkinabe athletics. Good omens for the African U20 championships in Lusaka, Zambia, scheduled for the end of May.
