Kenya's Jackson Tuwei was elected vice-president of World Athletics on the eve of the 19th Budapest Athletics Championships. He spoke about his priorities in his new role. "Of course, we have to look seriously at strengthening the African (Athletics) Championships. Because unlike other zone championships, such as the European Championships, for example, the African Championships do not count towards qualification for the World Championships and the Olympic Games". He adds: "The same applies to the All-Africa Games. Which will be held in Ghana next year. They don't count towards any qualification".
