Athletics: Marie Josée Ta Lou in the best shape of her life at 34

Winner of the 100m at the Oslo meeting on Thursday 15 June, the 5th stage of the Diamond League, Marie Josée Ta Lou clocked the fastest time of the year (10s75). The Ivorian now holds the 3 best African 100m performances in history.

At nearly 35, Marie Josée Ta Lou is running faster than ever. The Ivorian sprinter is putting in a string of top-class performances. After clocking 10s76 a few days ago, the multiple African champion achieved the best performance of the year in the women's 100m in the Diamond League in Oslo on Thursday evening.

Marie Josée Ta Lou clocked 10s75. It's the 2nd fastest time of her career on the straight. Ta Lou now has the 3 best African performances in history over the distance (10s72, 10s75 and 10s76). Handicapped last year by injury, she looks set to upset the Jamaican 100m cohort at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in a few weeks' time.

Sherika Jackson was also present at the start of the race in Oslo. The Jamaican, bronze medallist at the 2020 Olympics, finished third in 10s98. The other two sprint superstars, Shelly-Ann Fraser and Elaine Thomson-Herah, have yet to set any benchmark times. Let's hope Marie Josée Ta Lou can keep up her pace until the world championships scheduled for 19-27 August in Hungary.
