Basketball - World Cup 2023: Angola coach regrets mass naturalizations

Naturalizations of players have become commonplace in basketball. A situation that does not please Josep 'Pep' Clarós Canals, coach of the Angolan basketball team.

As his team lost their 3rd game at the World Basketball Championships on Tuesday August 29 (a defeat synonymous with elimination), he spoke out on the subject."We could sign a foreign player like most national teams, and maybe we'd score more 3-pointers. But I don't think it's a good thing, and I really think FIBA needs to put an end to this practice as soon as possible," he urges.

Lee goes even further and warns."Otherwise, in a few years' time, there won't be any local talent left. Each country must develop its own players. That's how I see it. There are players who don't even speak the language of the country they represent. Some countries have seven or eight foreign-born players.
