World record holder in the 800 m, David Rudisha, is one of three ambassadors appointed for the World Athletics Championships taking place from August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.Rudisha, 34, won two gold medals at the World Championships in 2011 in Daegu and in 2015 in Beijing.
He is also a two-time Olympic champion. He first won the title in London in 2012 with a world record of 1mn40s91. Rudisha went on to retain the title in Rio 2016. The Kenyan is "deeply honored to be named ambassador of the Budapest 23 World Athletics Championships by World Athletics". He added: "Congratulations to all the athletes who will be at this year's World Championships. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a successful competition, and I ask all fans and athletes to maintain the spirit of sportsmanship during the event".
Other ambassadors for the championships include former British decathlon world champion Daley Thompson and former high jump world champion Blanka Vlašić from Croatia.
