Now there are just 10. After the initial list of 30 nominees, on November 27 the Confederation of African Football unveiled the list of 10 finalists for the African Women's Player of the Year award. Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala, the defending champion, is unsurprisingly included in the final list.
European champion with FC Barcelona and after the Flying Eagles' run to the Women's World Cup, the striker could well succeed herself. But the competition for this year's CAF Awards will be stiff, with fellow countrywoman Chiamaka NNadozie, South Africans Andile Dlamini and Thembi Kgatlana, and Moroccans Ghizlane Chebbak and Fatima Tagnaout among the contenders. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in Marrakech on December 11.
