Texas-based Eric Lira has admitted to supplying performance-enhancing substances to athletes. In fact, the American therapist has admitted supplying doping substances to Nigerian sprinter Blessing Okagbare at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Okagbare received an 11-year suspension. And on Wednesday February 21, the American was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and one year's probation. He will also have to pay a fine of 15,113 euros.
"The conviction sends a clear message: violating the Rodchenkov anti-doping law carries serious consequences, including prison sentences. This message is particularly important this year with the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris," said US Attorney Damian Williams in a statement.
