A first in Gabon.Footballers from the national league staged a sit-in in front of the Presidential Palace. They even sent a message to the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema. The aim was to settle the debt owed to the footballers, estimated at 3.7 billion CFA francs (5.6 million euros).
"These are National-Foot 1 and 2 and women's footballers who are demanding payment of their salary arrears. For some people, this dates back 7 years, and for others to the last championship, without being paid. We've initiated all possible procedures while respecting the hierarchy, but nothing has been done," Yelly Nang, the footballers' delegate, told gabonreview.com.

However, a commission had been set up by the Minister of Sport to assess the players' debts and the audit report on this debt of first and second division clubs had been submitted to the Prime Minister since December 18. "We waited another month, but nothing came of it. So we sent a letter to the Presidency, as a last resort. We had been promised a meeting with all the stakeholders who decide on sport in Gabon and on payment.But our word has not been kept", he said.
