André Ayew's call-up is causing quite a stir in Ghana.The Black Stars captain is without a club, but has been called up by Chris Hughton to take part in Matchday 6 of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers against Central Africa (September 7) and the friendly against Liberia (September 13). In the face of criticism, the Ghana coach was keen to justify his decision.
"It's about the team I want and the reasons why each player is part of that team.So, what is an outside perception? I don't know. You know, and that's not my problem. There always will be in the general public. There's always going to be a lot of debate about who should be in the team and who shouldn't be. André (Ayew) falls into a category. What I have to do is choose a team. And that team can be made up of young, passionate players. It can also be made up of players who are perhaps more experienced," declared the Irish coach.
