Ghana is facing an unprecedented economic crisis. The country was even due to host the All-Africa Games in August 2023. However, in the face of this crisis, the event has been postponed until March 2024, just a few months before the Olympic Games. Ghana has experienced a major delay in the delivery of its infrastructure.
However, the country is still determined to host the All-Africa Games, according to Dan Kwaku Yeboah, Accra 2023's communications manager. "More than 200 million dollars (186 million euros) have already been committed to the project," Kwaku Yeboah told German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle. "Yes, the economic challenges are there, but the government is 100% committed to ensuring that Ghana organises the Games.
More than 5,000 athletes from over 50 countries are expected to take part in Accra 2023, which has retained its original brand despite being postponed until next year. Despite the postponement of the All-Africa Games, Accra is set to host the first Para-African Games, scheduled for September 3-12.
