Guinea won't be able to count on Naby Keïta for the first two days of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In preparation for the matches against Uganda and Botswana, coach Kaba Diawara has withdrawn the Syli National captain from the squad.The reason? The midfielder has opted to stay with Werder Bremen to continue working towards a return to form. The German club announced Naby Keïta's presence at training on Monday November 13.
"Naby Keïta will not play for Guinea during this period of international matches. The national player was finally named for the World Cup qualifiers against Uganda (November 17, 2023) and Botswana (November 21, 2023), by coach Kaba Diawara. The midfielder would like to concentrate on his rehabilitation during the match-free period and continue working on his comeback," reads a statement on Werder Bremen's official website.
