Justice: Oscar Pistorius granted release

Justice: Oscar Pistorius granted release

Oscar Pistorius soon to be free. Ten years after the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and after being sentenced to 13 years and 5 months in prison at the end of his appeal trial, the former 400m specialist had his application for parole favorably received on November 24. A commission, made up of members of the prison service and civilians, was assembled to rule on the 37-year-old South African's request.

After examining his case, the members determined that he could be released on bail, but subject to certain conditions. Pistorius will have to serve the remainder of his sentence "in the community correctional system and will be subject to supervision in accordance with the conditions of parole until the expiration of his sentence", states the prison administration's press release. he will also have to undergo therapy to manage his anger. Oscar Pistorius thus benefits from South African law, which allows a prisoner to apply for early release after serving half his sentence. Convicted at first instance in 2014, he was convicted again on appeal in 2016 and 2017. His first application for a release was rejected.
