On Sunday April 21, Peres Jepchirchir made history. The Kenyan won the London Marathon. With a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 16 seconds, she also set a new world record for an all-women's race. She erased Mary Keitany's 2017 performance (2h17:01) from the annals. Reigning Olympic champion Jepchirchir sends a clear message to the competition less than 100 days before the Paris Olympics. Ethiopia's Tigist Assefa (2nd, 2:16:16) and Kenya's Joyciline Jepkosgei (3rd, 2:16:24) completed the podium.
In the men's race, victory went to another Kenyan, Alexander Mutiso Munyao (2:04:01). He is followed by Kenenisa Bekele (ETH,2nd, 2:04:15) and Emile Cairess (GBR,3rd, 2:06:46).
