MMA: The referee of the fight between "Baki" and Doumbè breaks his silence

On Thursday, March 07, the fight between Cédric Doumbè and Baysangur "Baki" Chamsoudinov came to a screeching halt. Referee Marc Goddard gave victory to "Baki" even though Doumbè had a splinter on his foot. He ruled that the Franco-Cameroonian was unable to continue. The fighter denied this.

For La Sueur, Marc Goddard returned to the event 48 hours later. "At the start of the third round, Cédric Doumbè was trying to point out something to me, saying there was a problem, by showing me his foot. At that point, no foul was committed. If a foul is committed, I can stop the action and then make a decision. If there's an illegal action, voluntary or not, that's what we call an 'open play', the fight was in progress. He was signalling to me that there was a problem. The rules are very clear: for obvious reasons, a fighter can't take a time-out. People say that time-outs are common in MMA. Yes, but only if a foul is committed", assures the referee.
