After Nigeria's two draws in Matchdays 1 and 2 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, voices are being raised. One of them is Ahmed Musa. The 31-year-old Nigerian player has called for the association of former internationals with the Nigerian national team. This is to promote leadership in the team and help young players. He cited John Obi Mikel as a good human resource to bring his experience to the Super Eagles.
"As you can see, we still need someone like Mikel Obi in the team, we still need Victor Moses. It's not just about having young players in the team, because you need players to mentor them, which we don't have at the moment," he said.He also asked for patience and indulgence for the players. "Please, I beg the media, be calm with these young boys; they can't take too much pressure. That's why, once they step on the pitch to play, they worry about what they'll see on their Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts," added the 31-year-old.
“Nowadays with the players we have, none of them staying in Nigeria..They don’t know that anger that we are facing whenever we lose.” - Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa.
