Last week, Percy Tau called South African national team coach Hugo Broos to apologize for the friendly matches against Eswatini and Côte d'Ivoire. This was due to "family matters".
The coach agreed. But to his great surprise, Tao played on Sunday October 8 with Al Ahly, scoring 2 goals in his team's 3-1 victory over Ismaily.
Broos said he was disappointed by the attitude of his best player, whom he had seen play against the odds. "I had contact with Percy last week when he called to say that, for family reasons, he would like not to be here with us.I understood that, but on the other hand, I'm not amused that he played yesterday (Sunday) for Al Ahly". "Mduduzi Mdantsane of Kaizer Chiefs will replace Tau," he also announced.
South Africa will play Eswatini on October 13 and Cote d'Ivoire on October 17.
