South Africa coach Hugo Broos has qualified his team for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations, beating the favorites Morocco in the Round of 8 (2-0). He was interviewed by RTBF about his life in Southern Africa and his difficulties."When I leave home, I usually go to South Africa for two months and then come back to Belgium for a few weeks. Unlike what I experienced in Cameroon (editor's note: where he was coach between 2016 and 2017), there are more players playing in the local league that I'm obliged to follow. You miss your family, it's not easy every day, but I'm not complaining. I knew when I signed here that this could happen, it's part of the job."
The coach also spoke about his future. "You never know what's going to happen in a coach's life. Given the results, my contract until 2026 won't be a problem. On the other hand, I also have to be honest.I'm 71 years old, and the end is approaching. I feel that some things are less pleasant than before. After the African Cup of Nations, I'm going to assess the situation and talk to the people at the Federation to see whether we should carry on or go our separate ways. This will be linked above all to issues such as distance from family, and the loneliness that is increasingly difficult to live with. We'll see," he declared. As a reminder, the quarter-final match between South Africa and Cape Verde will be played this Saturday, February 03 at 20:00 GMT.
