Norwegian fans have raised nearly 2 million rand (95,000 euros). A sum intended for former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Emile Baron. This after the news that he was living in poverty and asked for money to support his family. Baron has left his mark on his supporters. Indeed, between 1999 and 2004 he played for Lillestrøm SK. A report about his new life on the Norwegian TV2 channel has aroused an outpouring of solidarity from fans of his former club to help him. More than 5000 people contributed to the fund.
Baron did not finish his studies. He has no qualifications. But still, he is without work since he broke his leg during a match in 2013 (South Africa). And recently Baron and his family of four were evicted from their one-bedroom home. Worse, the former SuperSport United player lives on a monthly grant to take care of his wife and two teenage sons. That money ran out in a few days. Baron then scavenges empty bottles to sell and lives on handouts. This does not allow him to support his family. All these things motivated the impulse of his former supporters.
