Since Moroccan-born Anwar El Ghazi's support for Palestine over Israel's attacks, German club Mainz have been in conflict with the striker. They have gone a step further, initiating a procedure to dismiss the player since the former Lille man refuses to change his position.
The consequence? It's now official: El Ghazi is no longer a Mainz player."FSV Mainz 05 has terminated the contractual relationship with Anwar El Ghazi and dismissed the player with immediate effect on Friday. The club is taking this step in response to the player's statements and publications on social networks," the club announced.
The 28-year-old player took to social networks to reinforce his stance in support of Palestine despite the dismissal. "Standing up for what is right, even if it means standing alone. The loss of my livelihood is nothing compared to the hell being unleashed on the innocent and vulnerable of Gaza," El Ghazi says on Instagram.
