Former Togolese international Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed his sorrow at the situation of Togolese soccer, absent from the AFCON since 2017. Speaking to RFI, the player said he was ready to invest in his country's soccer, to enable it to return to the top flight.
"After the African Cup of Nations, I'm going to try and talk to the Minister of Sport and the authorities to see how I too can make a contribution, because all we want to do is support the country. When I see what my country is going through at the moment, it's very difficult to digest, especially as I'm considered one of CAF's legends.
However, he immediately rules out a coaching role for himself. "No, I can't be a coach, I know my temperament, but I can be an ambassador. I can be someone who will accompany the young brothers so that I can share my experience with them. I played in the quarter-finals of the AFCON and the World Cup. I can tell them how to prepare for a big game, how to relax."
