Two Moroccan cyclists missing in Burkina Faso for a month

Two Moroccan cyclists missing in Burkina Faso for a month

Moroccan cyclists Abderrahmane Serhani and Driss Fatihi, have not been heard from since they entered Burkina Faso. They would have disappeared between the border between Burkina and Niger. The Moroccan Embassy in Burkina Faso and local authorities are conducting an intense search for the two cyclists.

"Untiring efforts are being made by all the services of the representation of the Kingdom, in close coordination with the competent authorities of Burkina Faso, in the search for the two Moroccan nationals presumed missing at the border between Burkina Faso and Niger," said the Moroccan embassy in Ouagadougou.

The two cyclists had left Morocco on January 19. On March 29, one of the two cyclists posted a video on his Facebook page in which he claimed to be heading for Burkina Faso, a country whose northeastern region has been caught up in a spiral of violence attributed to armed terrorist groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (EI) organization since 2015.
