2023/24 Ghana Premier League Matchday 5 Wrap: RTU Stuns Karela United, Samartex dominates Dreams FC

The games of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League matchday five have concluded at the different stadiums, with three matches still pending.

On Friday at the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko clinched their second victory of the season, defeating Aduana FC. Kalo Ouattara scored the solitary goal, securing all three points for the Porcupine Warriors.

At the Sunyani Coronation Park on Saturday, Bofoakwa Tano played to a goalless draw against Bibiani Gold Stars.

Berekum Chelsea, playing at the Golden City Park, managed a 1-0 win against Nations FC, with Emmanuel Sarpong scoring the decisive goal in the 40th minute.

Legon Cities, hosting Bechem United at the El-Wak Stadium, settled for a 1-1 draw. Samuel Osei Kuffour found the net for the away side in the 15th minute, but Frank Antwi equalized for the home side in the 78th minute. Notably, both teams ended the game with only ten players on the field.

Real Tamale United, at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Karela United. Baba Kushibo broke the deadlock for the home side in the 11th minute, followed by Mohammed Alhassan Mankuyeli's goal in the 18th minute.
However, Evans Adomako managed to pull one back for the away side in the 32nd minute. Owusu Afriyie extended the lead with a goal in the 57th minute, and Alex Kuffour found the net in the 84th minute, resulting in a 3-2 win for the home side.

FC Samartex 1996, playing at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex, convincingly defeated Dreams FC by a score of 2-0. Baba Hamadu Musa put the home side ahead in the 13th minute, and Dauda Yussif Seidu scored in the later stages of the second half to secure all three points.

The match between Heart of Lions and Hearts of Oak, originally scheduled to take place at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope, was postponed due to the spillage of the Akosombo Dam.

Additionally, the match between Medeama SC and Nsoatreman FC was also postponed, as the Yellow and Mauve team participated in a friendly game against DC United in the USA on Saturday.

However, on Monday, the final game of matchday five will feature Great Olympics hosting Accra Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled at 15:00 GMT.

In the current league standings, FC Samartex, Bofoakwa Tano, Legon Cities, and Asante Kotoko occupy the top four positions, while Medeama SC, Hearts of Oak, and Bechem United find themselves in the relegation zone.
