2023 AFCON Qualifiers: Latest Update from Ghana’s Camp Ahead of Central African Republic Clash

Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton

Ghana's senior national football team, the Black Stars, are gearing up for a crucial encounter against the Central African Republic in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

With qualification for the prestigious tournament in Ivory Coast hanging in the balance, here's the latest scoop from the Black Stars' camp.

As at now, a total of 23 players have reported to the training camp. However, two notable absentees are goalkeeper Richard Ofori and forward Jordan Ayew, who are yet to join their teammates. Their absence raises questions, but fans hope for their swift arrival to strengthen the squad.

The team is set to embark on a journey to Kumasi today, where the showdown will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium. This move signifies the team's commitment to preparing adequately for the vital encounter.

Coach Chris Hughton has made a notable decision by including Black Stars captain Andre Ayew in the squad ahead of the match.

Speaking about his choice, Hughton explained, "What I have to do is pick a squad that is made up of young exciting players and much more experienced players." This blend of youth and experience is aimed at achieving success in this critical match.

The Black Stars initiated their training sessions at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Twelve players participated in the initial training session, including key figures like captain Andre Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Baba Iddrisu, and debutant Jonathan Sowah from Medeama SC.

Although the training session was relatively light, it was focused on developing strategies to overcome their opponents in the upcoming high-stakes match.

Coach Hughton anticipates a full house in Tuesday's training session, which will also be held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Notable players like Jordan Ayew, Baba Rahman, Inaki Williams, Joseph Paintsil, and Ernest Nuamah are expected to join the training, boosting the team's preparations.

The stakes couldn't be higher for the Black Stars, who aim to secure qualification for next year's AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

They must avoid defeat at all costs to achieve this goal. In contrast, the Central African Republic is desperate for a victory to secure their own qualification.

This sets the stage for an intense and high-stakes showdown that has fans on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating the outcome.

As the match day approaches, the entire nation of Ghana will be rallying behind their beloved Black Stars, hoping for a victorious journey to the 2023 AFCON tournament.
