Ghana's Amputee football team, known as the Black Challenge, in a spectacular display of skill and determination, dominated their opening match in the 2023 African Para Games.
The electrifying encounter took place at the USPA Astro Turf, where the Ghanaian squad announced their presence by defeating Uganda's Amputee Cranes with a commanding score of 7-0.
The heroes of the day for Ghana included Mohammed Mubarik, who scored twice, Yussif Yahaya with a stunning hat-trick, and Hamza Mohammed, who also netted two goals. It was a performance that left fans in awe and set a high standard for the tournament ahead.
Head coach of the Ghana Amputees football team, Stephen Richard Obeng - Coach, after the match expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, stating, "Our preparations have yielded fruits. After the second half, we started taking off some players to also give the second team a chance. We needed to test all our players, and that's what we did. I will urge the supporters to keep coming in their numbers to support the team, and I'm very confident we can host and win the competition."
Captain Richard Arthur Opetin, reflecting on the match, acknowledged that it wasn't as easy as it may have seemed. He rallied Ghanaians to support the team wholeheartedly and to keep them in their thoughts and prayers, saying, "I will urge Ghanaians to support us and keep praying for us so we can go on and punch above our weights."
The Black Challenge's impressive victory in their group opener means they top Group A.
Liberia will also play Morocco in the second group A fixture tomorrow, September 4 at 7pm.
