AFCON 2023: All the different distinctions of this 34th edition

The AFCON 2023 ended with a victory for Côte d'Ivoire over Nigeria (1-2) on Sunday February 11. The 4th edition saw William Troost-Ekong succeed Sadio Mané as best player. Discover the various individual awards.

William Troost-Ekong named best player of AFCON 2023

The AFCON 2023 also ended with a victory for Côte d'Ivoire over Nigeria (1-2). During the trophy presentation ceremony, several players were also rewarded for their performance in this 34th edition.

Unlucky finalist William Troost-Ekong can take comfort in the trophy for best player of the competition. The Nigerian defender, scorer of three goals in the tournament, beat compatriot Victor Osimhen. The colossus stood out for his leadership and defensive solidity. He converted two crucial penalties, and it was also he who gave Nigeria the lead in the final by opening the scoring.

The title of top scorer went to Emilio Nsue. The Equatoguinean striker scored 5 goals in the competition. The best total ever. He is therefore logically rewarded. The same goes for South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who won the Best Keeper award.

He went down in AFCON history after saving 4 penalties in the quarter-final shoot-out against Cape Verde. He also helped Bafana Bafana to third place by saving two Congolese shots. His team also won the Fair Play award.

The title of Best Coach went logically to Emerse Faé. The Ivorian coach, who took over the reins in the middle of the competition after Jean Louis Gasset resigned, pulled off an unprecedented feat, guiding his team to the final title. Quite an achievement for the French coach's former player assistant. He also enabled Simon Adingra to reveal himself to the general public at the AFCON. The Ivorian nugget won the trophy for best young player. A fitting end to a fine campaign for the Elephants.
