Beaten in the first two rounds of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers by Senegal and Mozambique, Benin almost recorded a third defeat this Wednesday against Rwanda.
The Cheetahs conceded the opening goal in the first quarter of an hour on a goal by Mugisha (14th). They pushed to come back, creating a lot of chances to score. But the Amavubis, in numerical inferiority from the 61st minute, were saved several times by their goalkeeper, the posts sometimes and especially the clumsiness of the Beninese strikers.
It is finally Steve Mounié, with a very nice shot, which breaks the lock in the 80th minute. Benin (1 pt) and Rwanda (2 pts) leave without a winner. The two nations will meet again on Monday in Cotonou as Rwanda does not have an approved ground to host its match of the 4th day.
