Ampem Darkoa egdes Hasaacas Ladies to retain tittle

Ampem Darkoa Ladies wins Ghana Women’s Premier League

Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC retained their tittle as champions of the Malta Guinness Women Premier league after beating Hasaacas Ladies FC on penalties after a 1-1 draw in duration on Friday in Abrankese.

“Nanamma” who emerged as champions of the Northern zone came back from a goal down to clinch their fourth league trophy at the Dr Kwame Kyei Complex in Abrankese.

Both sides fielded a strong side that entertained fans in the first 45 minutes of the game with both sides failing to find the back of the net on countless occasions.

The glory moment finally came in the 60th minute when Doris Boaduwaa rose high to head home from Firadaus Yakubu's corner kick to hand the ‘Giants of the West’ a deserving lead.

The five-times champions came close to adding the second of the evening but Opoku Linda’s effort was blocked by Mavis Owusu.

All looked like a done deal for Hasaacas to win their 6th league title but Ophelia Serwaah Amponsah cut short the dreams of the Southern zone champions with an 88th equaliser when she capitalised on Linda Eshun's howler to send a cute one past Grace Bawa.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies nearly stole the winner in the dying minutes of the game when experienced Ophelia Serwaah Amponsah sent in another effort but was calmly denied by ''saviour' Grace Bawa.

The game travelled to extra time but both sides failed to grab a goal in both halves with the game ending in penalty shootouts to decide the champion.

Set-piece specialist Comfort Yeboah took the first kick for Ampem Darkoa Ladies and sent it to the right top corner of the goalkeeper.

Success Ameyaa however missed her third kick for Hasaacas Ladies as she ballooned it over the post.

Ophelia Serwaah Amponsah eventually stepped up to take the last kick which sealed the Nanamma their second consecutive league title.

The victory means Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC will represent Ghana at the WAFU B championship with hopes of qualifying for the main CAF Women Champions League campaign.

Hasaacas Ladies FC represented Ghana at the maiden edition of the CAF Women Champions League campaign in Egypt where they lost the ultimate to South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns ladies in the finals.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies will however be looking forward to qualify for the continental showpiece in their second attempt, failing to qualify in their previous qualifiers in the WAFU B zone.
