CAF CL: RC Kadiogo knocks out Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko in dramatic penalty shootout

Asante Kotoko Vs RC Kadiogo in CAF Champions League

Ghana premier league champions are out of the 2022/2023 CAF Champions league after suffering a defeat in a dramatic penalty shootout to Kadiogo at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Sunday.

The entire Baba Yara Sports stadium was as silent as the cemetery as African football minors Kadiogo of Burkina Faso shocked the Porcupine warriors in front of their vociferous home fans.

The former African champions earned a first leg advantage over RC Kadiogo in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary stage clash on Monday, September 12 but failed to hold on in their return leg.

RC Kadiogo won the return leg by a lone goal through Bassika Sylla in the 14th minute and sent the game into a penalty shootout which saw Asante Kotoko bow out by 1-3.

Asante Kotoko head coach Zerbo was hopeful of turning things around with the introduction of Georges Mfegue Omgba and Solomon Sarfo Taylor after the hour-mark but all efforts proved futile.

Newly appointed head coach Seydou Zerbo despite  assuring the fans of a good result failed to deliver and have left a big whole in the heart of many Asante Kotoko supporters.

Asante Kotoko failed to progress to the next round of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League preliminary round and will now turn attention to the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier league season.

The porcupine warriors have won the CAF Champions league twice. They last won it in 1983 defeating Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly.
They last played in the group stages in 2006 where they finished third, falling behind CX Faxien and Al Ahly.
