CAF Cup: Mazembe sinks in Tanzania as ASEC Mimosas takes in heavily

The second day of the CAF Confederation Cup was played on Sunday, February 19. Marked by surprises, Tout Puissant Mazemble were among the losers.

Crows beaten badly

Tout Puissant Mazembe could not follow up with a second victory in this season's CAF Cup. After their opening win over Real Bamako, the Crows fell to Young Africans in Tanzania (3-1). They were quickly down 2-0 after goals from Zambian Kennedy Musonda (7th) and Tanzanian Mudathir Yahya (11th). Mazembe rebounded and reduced the score in the 80th thanks to Alex Ngonga. But it was without counting on Young Africans (2nd, 4 points) who destroyed any hope of the Congolese to return to the score. Tuisila Kisinda scored the last goal of the game (92nd). TP Mazembe (3 points) is now 3rd in group D, dominated by US Monastir (4 points) which brought back a precious point (1-1) in front of Real Bamako (4th, 1 point).

Marumo Gallants takes off
Two out of two currently in the CAF Cup. The South African team Marumo Gallants has achieved 6 out of possible 6. The team recorded a second success in a row. And what a victory! Marumo Gallants won (1-2) at St Eloi Lupopo of DR Congo. Mpho Mvelase (24th) and Ranga Chivaviro (42nd) scored. St Eloi Lupopo (4th, 0 point) will however reduce the score at the 80th through Patou Kabangu. Marumo Gallants is still the leader of its group A (6 points). He is followed by USM Alger (4 points) forced to draw by Al Akhdar (3rd, 1 point) of Libya (1-1).

AS FAR, please home crowd

The Moroccans of FAR Rabat were in trouble against Kara of Togo in this second day of the CAF Cup. The Moroccan team led in the 16th minute by a goal from Harissou Ouro, but they adjusted to win the game. Five goals by Mohamed Hrimat (39th), Ahmed Hammoudan (50th), Igmane Hamza (63rd), Mustapha Sahd (67th) and Zakaria Fati (92nd) gave their team a 5-1 victory. FAR consolidates its leadership position with 4 points in Group C. It is followed by Pyramids (2nd, 2 points) and Future FC (3rd, 2 points). Kara remains at the bottom of the table with only one unit.

ASEC brooding
How to win the first match of the CAF Cup? This is undoubtedly the question on the technical staff of ASEC Mimosas (4th, 1 point). The Ivorians have been severely corrected. Beaten (3-0) by Rivers United (2nd, 3 points) in this second day. In the other match of group B, Diables Noirs (1st, 4 points) of Congo Brazza have picked up a precious point on the road to Motembe Pembe (3rd, 2 points).
