Ghanaian coach, Evans Adotey targets CAF Champions League with Medeama SC

Medeama SC -winners of the 2022/2023 Ghana Premier League

Head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Evans Adotey says he is determined to reach the money zone in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League after leading Medeama Sporting Club to win their first-ever League title.

Speaking on Accra based Asempa FM on Tuesday,  the former Black Maidens trainer revealed their target for the upcoming CAF Inter-Clubs competition.

Just like every other club, our target is the money zone. However, we will set a target and before we get to the money zone we have to get out of the group stage successfully.

This means we have to go game by game. All the games before we reach the money zone will be very important to us. However, our main target and priority will be to enter into the money zone”- he continued.

Why not? We can also go far in the competition. We can emulate what Al Ahly and the rest have done in the competition. We are not scared by any of these clubs. It is all about the game plan and commitment of your players. So we are not thinking about whether it is Al Ahly or which ever club. We just believe that we can do it"-he added.

Skipper of the side, Kwesi Donsu speaking on another local radio station also reiterated their desire to reach a milestone in the Continental club competition.

"I sometimes don't understand why some people think Ghanaian clubs can't win the Africa Champions league, we should not aim just to add up to the numbers or to target only the group stages".

"Remember Medeama has been in Africa before and we got some huge results", he told Kumasi based Akoma FM.

"Our League is blessed with top quality players who are equally similar to those playing in other African countries and  clubs. We are only behind in some few areas and I believe management and the board of Medeama will put up the right procedures that will help us make history".

"Winning the Africa champions league is possible for Medeama and we will keep working hard for it", he added.

The Tarkwa-based club were crowned champions of the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League season following their 3-0 victory over Tamale City FC at the Akoon Park on Sunday.

The Yellow and Mauve club amassed 60 points from 34 games to beat Bechem United and Aduana Stars for the title.

Medeama will be facing stiff competition from Africa's most successful club Al Ahly of Egypt, Raja Casablanca of Morocco, Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa among others in the money zone.

Ghanaian clubs have struggled in their past appearances at the CAF Inter-Clubs competition and Medeama will be looking forward to making a mark on this stage when the campaign begins.
