"I'm really proud to be here" -Former England youth defender speaks after first Black Stars training session
Former England youth defender Tariq Lamptey has said that he is very proud to be part of the Black Stars team.
According to the former Chelsea youth star, he is super excited and can't wait to hit the balls running due to the fantastic atmosphere around him.
"Everyone has been fantastic, everyone has been welcoming. It’s been so good. I’m very proud to be here and I’m really just trying to train hard to give the best I can for the team".
Speaking about the much awaited encounter with Brazil on Friday, Lamptey said, “I’m looking forward to the game on Friday. In this game, we are preparing very well and we all want to be ready for Friday.”
Tariq Lamptey is expected to make his much awaited debut for the Black stars on Friday alongside Spain based Inaki Williams and Salisu Mohammed as the Black Stars takes on Brazil in an international friendly in France.
Ghana will then travel to Spain to take on Nicaragua on Tuesday as part of preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Ghana Football Association in June this year confirmed that the Brighton wing-back, who had represented England at different youth levels and made two appearances for the Under-21s, had opted to play for the Black Stars.
The Brighton defender has already won the heart of many Ghanaians with his charitable donations in the country.
In December 2021, the Foundation of Brighton star hosted a juvenile tournament in Cape Coast. The inaugural edition featured four local under-15 teams from the Cape Coast Municipality: Gyenyame International FC, Paabadu FC, Friends Babies, and Nader Rover FC. So, at the Cape Coast Stadium, the Tariq Lamptey Cup, a one-day event, was held. Lamptey has spent years assisting underprivileged children in the African country.
