More woes for NPFL organisers as Police seal League Management Company office

NPFL office sealed

The Nigerian Police Force sealed off the office of the organisers of the League Management Company on Thursday.

The development is coming just few days after the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development declared League Management Company (LMC) illegal.

Eyewitnesses informed SportNewsAfrica that about five truckloads of policemen numbering up to 20 early morning took over the office at No 20, Osun Crescent, Off IBB Way, Maitama, Abuja.

The reported invasion of the corporate headquarters of the League Management company LMC at Maitama in Abuja have been described as unacceptable and uncalled for by Football Club Owners Association of Nigeria.

The woes of the league organisers have been compounded after the government disbanded the League Management Company on the grounds that it is illegal and not known to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) statutes.

A week ago, Ismaila Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, had announced the withdrawal of the government’s recognition of the LMC.

He had explained that the decision was taken given the several unpleasant incidents regarding the management of the football league and went on to direct the NFF to set up an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to run the league pending the time the clubs will run it themselves.

In the same vein, the Federal government have launched a probe of the LMC operations in the past 10 years.

However, in a response to the Ministry’s statement, LMC, also on Tuesday via its Twitter handle, insisted that the league body has legal backing in the Football laws and regulations which are constituted in both the NFF and FIFA, including the corporate laws.
