PSL - South Africa: Bongani Zungu returns

After seven years spent between France, Portugal and Scotland, Bongani Zungu is returning home. The South African midfielder has signed for Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed what was long in the making. Club chairman Thlopie Motsepe unveiled Bongani Zungu as the club's latest signing at Loftus Versfeld before the DStv Premiership encounter between Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs. In fact Sundowns announced their latest signing while leading that game 2-0.

The 29-year-old knows the club well, having played for three seasons with the African side. Zungu played last year at Amiens in the French Ligue 2 and left the club at the end of his contract.

The 29-year-old midfielder left Sundowns in 2016 to join Vitoria Guimaraes but now returned to South Africa after six years in Europe. He won four trophies during his first stint at Chloorkop, two PSL titles, one Nedbank Cup trophy and one Telkom Knockout.

Sundowns, meanwhile, have already announced the signings of goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and midfielder Sipho Mbule. Ethiopian international Abubeker Nassir has also arrived in South Africa and the club announce his signing before the start of the new season.

They are heading for a better football season especially in the CAF Champions League as they missed out last season. It was the only trophy Sundowns failed to keep as they dominated the domestic football in South Africa winning everything possible.
