Road To WAFU Zone B U20 Girls Cup of Nations: Yussif Basigi names final squad for tournament

Ghana’s squad for U20 Girls Cup

Head coach of the Under 20 Women’s National team of Ghana, Yussif Basigi has named his final squad for the maiden edition of the WAFU Zone B U20 Girls Cup of nations to be held in Kumasi.

After series of training at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence at Prampram ahead of the tournament, the gaffer has settled on twenty(20) women contingent and they are expected to depart Accra for Kumasi on Thursday, May 18, 2023.

The squad includes players from the winners of the 2023 Malta Guinness Women Premier league, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC as well as others from both the northern and the southern zone.

In their final huddle before the main tournament, the Ghanaian side dismantled Niger in a friendly encounter on Wednesday morning at the Accra sports stadium.

The Black Princesses produced a stunning 11-0 victory over their Nigerien counterparts to put them in a fine shape ahead of the showpiece.

Dreamz Ladies skipper Stella Nyamekye bagged a hattrick with two braces coming from Northern Ladies's Faiza Seidu and Mafia Nyame of Faith Ladies FC.

Three more goals from Tracy Twum, Helen Alormenu and Mary Amponsah ensured Ghana secured a huge win.

The WAFU B U20 tournament will kick-off on May 20, 2023 at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Kumasi with Ghana being drawn in Group A alongside Benin and Cote D'Ivoire.
