The Black Meteors of Ghana have advanced to the final qualification round of the 2023 U23 AFCON Qualifiers after beating Mozambique by 4:1 on aggregate.
Despite beating Mozambique in Maputo in.the first leg, the Black Meteors put up another spectacular performance in front of home fans at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory.
Skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnie came close to getting Ghana's first goal of the day but saw his long range strike denied by the Mozambique goalkeeper Francisco.
Goalkeeper Francisco made another spectacular save in the 40th minute mark to deny the Ghanaian side the opener.
Ghana’s side finally broke the deadlock after several attempts with a fantastic strike from Sylvester Simba assisted by Augustine Randolph in the ending minutes of the first half.
Back from recess, the Black Meteors continued to press forward in search of another goal with several attempts on goal.
Captain of the Ghana team, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh scored from 12 yards in the 54th minute to double the lead for the hosts.
The game ended in a 2-0 (4-1 aggregate) victory for Ghana and qualifies them to the final round of the 2023 U23 AFCON Qualifiers.
The Black Meteors in a quest to play in the Olympic games, they are bent on making it to the U23 AFCON finals to earn a spot.
They have been absent from the competition after last participating in the 2004 edition in Greece.
The U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled for Morocco in June next year will provide the tickets for Africa’s representatives for the next Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
