We are an ambitious team and we want to rewrite the history books - Morocco's coach Walid Regragui

Morocco head coach Walid faces press ahead of semifinals game against France

Coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui says he has an ambitious team who are hungry for success and wish to write their names in the history books.

"We are a very ambitious team. We are confident and we want to rewrite the history books. Perhaps you might say i am mad, crazy but we are confident, we are still hungry", Walid told the press.

Coach Walid who made history over the weekend as the first coach to lead an African side to a semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup is adamant that his side will sail through and change the narratives about African football.

"European Journalists do not like African teams playing like Europeans. In the past, they were seen as teams who played for fun but were not effective. Those days are over. We're very ambitious and hungry. We want Africa to be top of the world".

Morocco despite being in one of the toughest groups at the mundial, finished as leaders in Group F, which contained European giants Belgium, Croatia and North America's Canada.

Speerheaded by master tactician Walid Regragui, the Atlas Lions managed to edge past 2010 winners Spain on Penalties in the Round of 16 and beat Portugal in normal time in the quarter final.

With their eyes on the ultimate prize, the North Africans will be facing a greater test when they take on defending Champions France in the second Semi Final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Walid Regragui and his men will be looking forward to making themselves proud and that of the entire African continent and the Arab world.
