Qatar 20222: "We have the qualities to compete with Portugal" - Ghana’s Otto Addo declares

The head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo has said that his side has what it takes to match the Portuguese on any day.

Speaking to the press ahead of the game on Thursday, Addo confirmed that his side would have a lot to do against the Portuguese to avoid a defeat.

"I think we have what it takes to compete with Portugal. Surely we have to be very brave. We want to play football but we surely have to defend very well"-he stated.

"As you've seen in previous matches, little things can decide the winner. All previous matches were very close and could have turned to either directions. I expect the game against Portugal to be the same", he added.

Speaking on Cristiano Ronaldo's contract termination from Manchester United, Coach Addo believes it ain't much of a problem to disrupt the Portuguese ahead of the big clash.

"I don’t know and to be honest, I don’t care. It’s not our problem and I don’t think it’s a big problem,” Addo said at the pre-game presser.

“Everybody wants to win. No matter what happens, it’s a big stage, a big game at the World Cup level, so I don’t think normally this can disrupt anybody.”

Skipper of the side, Andre Ayew also added that the Black Stars will do everything possible to get a positive result in their 2022 World Cup Group H opener against Portugal on Thursday.

We know that in these big tournaments there are lots of surprises that can happen, so we just need to be ready. The Saudi game [vs Argentina] was great and marvelous, but we need to think about ourselves and not look at what somebody has done.

“And we will prepare for our game, which we are going to do everything to get something out of it”-he concluded.

The Black stars of Ghana will take on Portugal on Thursday, November  23, 2022 before facing off with South Korea on November 28 in their second group game and take on old rivals Uruguay on December 2 in their final group game.

Ghana World Cup Squad: Otto Addo names official 26-man squad for Qatar 2022

Head coach of the Black Stars of Ghana, Otto Addo has named his final 26man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Stars are making their fourth appearance at the World stage in Qatar after beating Nigeria in the final play-off games.

Otto Addo announced a 55-man squad list for the tournament last month which has now been trimmed down to twenty-six (26) players.

The West African giants will be without the services of two experienced goalkeepers Richard Ofori and Jojo Wallocot as well as RDC Mallorca midfielder, Baba Iddrisu due to injury.

Spanish born Inaki Williams and former England Youth international, Tariq Lamptey who switched their international allegiance to represent Ghana at the senior level earned a spot in the Black Stars final squad list for the World Cup.

In-form Belgium based winger Joseph Paintsil and Crystal Palace midfielder Jeffery Schlupp miraculously missed out on the final spot which has left many Ghanaians in a state of dilemma.

Accra Hearts of Oak forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Asante Kotoko shot-stopper Danlad Ibrahim made the cut as the only local players to make the cut.

Ghana have been housed in Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup alongside 2016 European champions Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea and will begin their 2022 World Cup campaign with Portugal on 24th November, 2022 before playing against Uruguay and South Korea.
